The NICE Appraisal Committee’s preliminary recommendation is that azacitidine is not recommended as a treatment option for people with myelodysplastic syndromes, chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia or acute myeloid leukaemia. The Committee recommends that people currently receiving azacitidine for these conditions should have the option to continue treatment until they and their clinicians consider it appropriate to stop.
This is very disappointing news but it's important to emphasise that this is not NICE's final guidance and the recommendation may change after consultation.
