Increase in prescription charges for patients in England

Wednesday, April 04, 2007

On 01 April, prescription charges were abolished for people living in Wales. On the same day prescription charges in England increased by 20p to £6.85.

Macmillan Cancer Support is urging the Government to scrap charges for English patients when it announces the results of its internal review this summer.

Research by Macmillan shows that one in seven cancer patients aged 55 and under (14 per cent) who currently have to pay for prescriptions and whose financial situations has worsened are unable to afford their cancer treatment.
