The campaigns officer for Macmillan Cancer Support wants to establish levels of interest from cancer patients, carers, family and close friends in attending a Macmillan research focus group.
The focus groups would comment on Macmillan's initial design ideas for leaflets/adverts, which they will launch later this year. The focus groups would also talk to Macmillan in more detail about the financial cost of cancer, specifically about problems paying mortgage/rent payments or even losing the home.
The date of the focus group meetings would be week beginning 09 October 2006 (the exact date will be fixed once levels of interest have been established).
Expenses will be paid - £30 per participant, plus all travel costs reimbursed on production of a receipt.
Focus group participants will be cancer patients or anybody affected by cancer - carers, family members or close friends - who have experienced problems with housing costs.
Macmillan is considering holding three groups (in Bradford/Leeds area, Bristol and London), but this depends on levels of interest in each area. If there is substantial interest in a different area, they would consider holding a group there.
The focus groups will be facilitated by a leading research agency, OLR, with whom the Macmillan campaigns officer has previously worked. OLR understand the issues faced by people affected by cancer and will be sensitive to the issues being discussed.
