Exceptional funding for cancer treatment

The following information was requested from the PCT under the Freedom of Information Act.

Written protocols
Bristol PCT has an Exceptional Funding protocol.  It covers all exceptional requests and is not just specifically for cancer treatments.


Cancer treatments funded by PCT following exceptional requests

Since 01 October 2006, the PCT has approved 12 requests.  Treatments approved were:

  • Temozolomide (in line with NICE appraisal)
  • Velcade
  • Dasatinib


Cancer treatments not funded by PCT following exceptional requests

Since 01 October 2006, the PCT has refused 25 requests.  Treatments not funded were:

  • Velcade
  • Dasatinib
  • Bortezomid
  • Depocyte Intrathecal Chemotherapy
  • Lenalidomide
  • Pemetrexate
  • Rituximab
  • Sutent
