The following information was requested from the PCT under the Freedom of Information Act.

Written protocols
Barnsley PCT has a process to evaluate requests for individual patients.  The PCT takes into consideration all local and national guidance.  The following decision making values are applied: effectiveness, appropriateness, equity, accessibility, efficiency, responsiveness.


Cancer treatments funded by PCT following exceptional requests

Barnsley PCT has considered and approved 37 requests since 01 April 2006.  The following treatments were approved:

  • Bone marrow transplant
  • Taxotere
  • Avastin
  • MabCampath
  • Alpha interferon
  • Dasatinib
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery
  • Velcade
  • Sunitinib
  • Alimta
  • Baxarotene

Cancer treatments not funded by PCT following exceptional requests

Since 01 April 2006, the following cancer treatments were not funded:

  • Cetuximab
  • Erlotinib
  • Alpha interferon
